Book History
Books are the key to success! They are an opportunity to make life better. Make reading books one of your goals — I assure you, it is a goal truly worth striving for.
Art Palace of Georgia invites you to a new educational program — “The History of the Book.”
Participants will have the opportunity to explore the Count’s Library, which preserves old Georgian printed books from King Erekle’s printing house, including prayer books, the Gospel, Kondaki, Davitni, as well as the “Georgian Alphabet with Prayers,” first printed in Rome in 1629 using Georgian script and text. The library also houses Kote Marjanishvili’s personal collection and many other rare and ancient editions.
You will also learn about the fascinating history of how books were created. Today, electronic books have many readers, but the aim of this program is to help young people maintain their interest in printed books, appreciate them even more, and develop a love for reading, because the value of books is immeasurable for everyone, especially for teenagers and children.
The practical activity will be especially fun! Participants will create their own bookmarks and decorate them with ornaments inspired by ancient Georgian textile patterns.
