Christ and John the Baptist, the Apostle Peter, and Saint
Augustine of Hippo, triptych

A gilded 16th-century triptych, attributed to a representative of the school of the Italian Renaissance painter Bernardino Pinturicchio (1454–1513), has been returned to Georgia.

Following negotiations with European partners initiated by Georgia’s Minister of Culture, Tinatin Rukhadze, the treasure was acquired by the Art Palace of Georgia with financial support from the Ministry of Culture. According to museum records and archival documents, the triptych was brought to Georgia by Prince Achille Charles Louis Murat (1847–1895). After the prince’s death, the object first became the property of Andria Dadiani and later of Count Oldenburg. Following the Soviet occupation of Georgia in 1921, the triptych was taken out of the country along with other items and was acquired by a European collector.
