
David Javrishvili from sports art to choreographic science
Organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia and the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, within the framework of the International Festival of Science and Innovations, on September 26, the Georgian State Folklore Center and the Palace of Arts held a joint event dedicated to the 125th anniversary of Davit Javrishvili.
The event included an exhibition depicting the life and work of Davit Javrishvili - "From Artistic Gymnastics to Choreographic Art"; a film shot during the 1934 Svaneti expedition - "Dancing Svaneti" was shown; a presentation of the book "Georgian Folk Dance", a collection of Davit Javrishvili's scientific works, prepared by the State Center for Folklore, was held.
The book is voluminous - along with the published works of Davit Javrishvili, it includes the first printing of "Georgian Women's Dances" (eight dances), fourteen Svan dances deciphered from film, drawings of about 20 unknown dances preserved in the archives of the Palace of Arts, and about 25 personal letters. This multi-genre book ends with a 500-word dictionary compiled by specialists from the State Center for Folklore. Davit Javrishvili was one of the founders of Georgian gymnastics, a famous ballet master, choreographer, choreographer, and an outstanding researcher and teacher-choreographer of Georgian dance. The development of Georgian classical choreography and the staging of about 80 Georgian folk dances are associated with his name. In 1935, Davit Javrishvili led a group of Georgian dancers at the London International Festival. This The 1951 Berlin International and 1955 Warsaw V World Festivals of Youth and Students followed. Davit Javrishvili was the first to stage Georgian dances in Georgian operas performed outside Georgia - at the Opera and Ballet Theaters of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kharkov and Odessa. The Georgian State Folklore Center will hold events dedicated to the anniversary of Davit Javrishvili throughout the year.
