Exhibition of paintings by Emma Lalaeva-Ediberidze

On February 28, at 19:00, an exhibition of paintings by Emma Lalaeva-Ediberidze will be held at the Georgian Palace of Arts. The exhibition will feature 42 paintings. The event will last until March 12.

The artist was born into the family of Arkady Lalayants (Lalaev), a famous Tbilisi photographer and owner of a photo studio located on Yerevan's (now Freedom) Square. Since 1921, she studied at the Tbilisi State Art Studio; from 1924 to 1928, she continued her studies at the Tbilisi Academy of Arts, Faculty of Graphics, in the class of Professor Ioseb Charlemagne. In 1928, due to family circumstances, she dropped out of the Academy of Arts and decided to move to Moscow, to the decorative department, but could not realize her plan and remained in Tbilisi. In 1938, her husband Giorgi Ediberidze became a victim of repression. In 1945, he was accepted as a member of the Union of Artists, but was soon expelled because of his repressed wife and was never reinstated. He tried his hand at almost all fields of painting; he simultaneously worked as a painter, graphic artist, decorator, animator, caricaturist, book designer, theater artist, clothing designer, created ex-libris, decorated Soviet celebrations. He chose the name "Lali" as his creative pseudonym and mainly signed his works that way. He never had a personal exhibition in his life, his first exhibition was held only in 2001 in Tbilisi.
