Photographic Exhibition of Tengiz Utmelidze
On November 28 at 6:00 PM, the Art Palace of Georgia – Museum of Cultural History will present a photography exhibition by Tengiz Utmlidze—actor, leading soloist of the golden era of the Sukhishvili Ensemble, chronicler, journalist, and public figure.
Tengiz Utmlidze is one of the most distinguished soloists of the Sukhishvili Ensemble and a true symbol of Georgian stage culture. In 1957, Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili invited him to join the State Ensemble of Georgian Folk Dance as a dancer-actor. From that moment began his formation as a professional dancer. His name remains inseparably linked to many iconic performances of the ensemble.
After graduating from the Faculty of Journalism at Tbilisi State University, he began working as a journalist. It was during this period that photography assumed a special place in his life. Utmlidze’s photographs became one of the most valuable and sincere visual archives documenting the history of the Sukhishvili Ensemble.
He created an exceptionally rich photographic chronicle—a record of creative life captured in frozen moments, portraying artistic processes, friendships, and travels. His decades-long dedication to culture is confirmed by numerous honors, including the title of Honored Artist, the Order of Honor, and the distinction of Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi.
It is precisely this multifaceted experience and unique perspective that make the work of Tengiz Utmlidze profoundly significant.
