Tamaz (Tazo) Khutsishvili

On December 22, the National Archives of Georgia hosted an exhibition dedicated to Tamaz (Tazo) Khutsishvili. The event also featured the presentation of a catalog on Tamaz Khutsishvili compiled by the Art Palace of Georgia and the premiere of a film by Goderdzi Sharashia.

Initiated by the Minister of Culture and published with the support of the Ministry, the Georgian-English book album comprises 300 colour pages and contains more than 250 works of art. It includes portraits by Tamaz Khutsishvili as well as genre paintings, theatre designs, book illustrations and sketches. This publication is the most comprehensive publication to date dedicated to the artist's work, bringing together works from public and private collections.

Tamaz Khutsishvili is a distinguished representative of Georgian painting. He graduated in 1966 from the studio of Professor Parnaoz Lapiashvili at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, where he later taught and mentored young artists for decades. Since 1996, he has been teaching painting at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Since his student days, his creative path has been marked by numerous and diverse exhibitions. The artist has illustrated children’s books and has designed many films and theatrical productions for Georgia’s dramatic and musical theaters. His works are held in leading museums and private collections in Georgia and around the world. In 1993, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Georgia.
