With financial support from the Ministry of Culture of Georgia, the collection of the Art Palace of Georgia has been enriched with a work of exceptional cultural, historical, and scholarly significance created in 1999 by Georgian artist, conservator-restorer, copyist of wall paintings, Nino Kitovani.

The acquired work is a high-quality copy of the composition “The Ascension” from the 18th-century mural on the west wall of the Church of the Archangels in the village of Adishi, which belongs to the municipality of Iprari in Upper Svaneti. This work is of particular significance, as the church’s frescoes have deteriorated significantly over time and parts of them have since been lost. Nino Kitovani’s copy preserves an invaluable visual record of the original wall painting and is therefore an invaluable resource for the study, reconstruction, and preservation of the fresco in its original form.
