The Bagrations

On September 20 at 3:00 PM, The Art Palace of Georgia – Museum of Cultural History, together with the Georgian National Museum, invites you to a unique exhibition dedicated to the Bagrationi Dynasty.

The Bagrationis are the royal dynasty of Georgia and one of the oldest noble families in the world. They originated from the Speri (Ispir) province of southern Georgia (present-day İspir district in Turkey). The dynasty maintained dynastic ties with the Shirvanshahs, the Byzantine Doukas and Komnenos dynasties, as well as the royal houses of the Bourbons and the Romanovs. The exhibition will feature 24 family portraits dating from the second half of the 18th century to the early 19th century.

Among them are portraits of George XI, Prince Irakli Bagrationi Gruzinsky (son of Alexander), Prince Grigol, King Erekle II, Princess Tekla, Prince Vakhtang, Princess Ekaterine, Little Kakhi, and Queen Tamar. Visitors will also see royal artifacts and  weapons, the Bagrationi coat of arms, and an astrolabe commissioned by King Vakhtang VI and crafted in Iran. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the past and legacy of the magnificent Bagrationi dynasty.

The portraits, royal relics, and historical treasures will allow visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the history of the Bagrationi family. If you’d like, I can also adapt this into a more formal invitation, a museum brochure style, or a press release version.
