The IV Scientific Conference dedicated to the 210th anniversary of Ekaterine Chavchavadze-Dadiani
On May 25–26, the IV Scientific Conference dedicated to the 210th anniversary of Ekaterine Chavchavadze-Dadiani was held in Zugdidi at the Zviad Gamsakhurdia Presidential Center, organized by the Union of Georgian Palace Museums. During the event, the first issue of the scientific-popular journal Mematiane(“The Chronicler”) was presented to the public.
The journal was printed at Sakpatenti’s printing house within the framework of a cooperation memorandum signed in December 2025 between Sakpatenti and the Art Palace of Georgia – Museum of Cultural History. The presentation was attended by conference members and employees of the center. Addressing the audience were the General Director of the Palace-Museums Union, George Kalandia, and the Chairman of Sakpatenti, Soso Giorgadze. In their speeches, they spoke about the life and legacy of Ekaterine Chavchavadze and highlighted her important contribution to Georgian culture and public life.
Ekaterine Chavchavadze was one of the prominent figures of 19th-century Georgian aristocracy. She was the daughter of the well-known Georgian poet and public figure Alexander Chavchavadze, the wife of the Prince of Samegrelo, David Dadiani, and later served as regent, playing a significant role in the political life of the period. The publication also includes rare photographic illustrations that help readers better experience the atmosphere of the 19th century.
Guests of the event were hosted by Davit Okujava, manager of the Dadiani Palaces Historical and Architectural Museum, together with the center’s staff.
In the era of digital media and artificial intelligence, printed publications continue to hold special value as a vital means of preserving and promoting cultural heritage. For this reason, supporting similar publishing and educational projects remains one of Sakpatenti’s priorities, as these initiatives help spread knowledge about intellectual property, support cultural values, and raise public awareness. The collaboration once again underlines the close connection between culture, history, and intellectual property.
The scientific-popular journal was founded by the Georgian Royal Asiatic Society of Georgia and the Union of Palace Museums. The publication was prepared with the support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia (GSDP-25-273).
The journal is published quarterly.
