Vepkhvadzes - four generations of artists
On November 15, at 7:00 PM, the exhibition "Vepkhvadzes - Four Generations of Artists" will open at the Georgian Palace of Arts, with the support of Tbilisi City Hall.
The exhibition will feature paintings by all four generations of the Vepkhvadze dynasty of artists - Ivane Vepkhvadze (1888-1971), Aleksi Vepkhvadze (1921-1982), Giovani Vepkhvadze (1949-2016) and Bruno Vepkhvadze - portraits, landscapes, historical stories and more.
The exhibition will also feature a presentation of a bilingual catalogue, which combines the work of all four generations of artists and was signed by the Mayor of Tbilisi.
Not only in Georgian reality, but also in the world, it is rare for four generations of one family to pursue painting. It can be safely said that the Vepkhvadze family gave Georgian painting a distinctive, national spirit and a unique artistic trend saturated with high professionalism... If we take into account the scarcity of historical painting, battle scenes and historical events on canvas, we can easily understand how important the Vepkhvadze family's contribution to the development of national culture was.
The Vepkhvadze family has a tradition of reviving on canvas, along with various interesting topics, a number of important events and historical figures from Georgia's past. In this regard, the first in the family was Ivane Vepkhvadze (1888-1971), whose path was continued by his son Alexi Vepkhvadze (1921-1982) and dedicated a number of monumental canvases to the history of Georgia.
The contribution of Giovanni Vepkhvadze (1949-2016) to the history of Georgian art is great. In his wonderful, inimitable colorful canvases, the artist brilliantly conveyed the adventures of old Tbilisi, showing us the charm of the past and the spirit of the inhabitants of the era. The artist's children - Bruno and Domenica Vepkhvadze - also worthily continue their father's path.
The exhibition will last for 2 weeks at the Palace of Arts.
