Doctor of Historical Sciences Giorgi Kalandia - General Director of the Georgian Palace of Arts. He was the author of several popular Georgian programs. Since 2010, he has been a professor at David Agmashenebeli University. Since 2012, he has been an honorary doctor of the same university. In 2007, he graduated from the European Union School of Politics (Strasbourg), and in 2011 from the ECM College of the University of Oxford, Dublin (English language).
In 2004-2011, under the leadership of Giorgi Kalandia, several scientific expeditions were organized in Turkey, India, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Portugal, and England, aimed at studying the traditions, folklore, and artifacts of Georgians living beyond the border (“Chveneburebi”). During the expeditions, dozens of Georgian villages, folklore samples and historical monuments were recorded on film.
In 2015-2016, Giorgi Kalandia researched unknown historical sources about the famous Georgian king Erekle II, preserved in the National Library of Ireland. The work was published in 2017 under the title “King Erekle in the British and Irish Press”. Kalandia has dedicated a number of works to Georgian-European relations, including: “Italy in Georgia: A Thousand-Year Dialogue” (2011), “Shakespeare in Georgian Painting” (2013), “Shakespeare in the Georgian Theater” (2013), “The Wardropes and Georgia” (2014), “Georgians in World War I” (2014), “German Artists and the Caucasus” (2015), “Shakespeare on the Georgian Stage” (2016).
In 2006, Giorgi Kalandia dedicated a scientific monograph to the architectural ensembles of the Dadiani palaces in Zugdidi, Gordi, and Salkhino. He studied the history of the construction of the palaces, the layout of the courtyard of the Samegrelo Princes’ Palace, and the vicissitudes of the establishment of the Zugdidi Historical Museum. He was the first to study and publish the biography of the Georgian public figure Ahmed Melashvili living in Turkey in the book "The Leader of Our People"
In 2017, the scientific project "Textiles from Georgia" led by Giorgi Kalandia was awarded the highest European cultural heritage award "Europa Nostra"
Since 2018, Giorgi Kalandia has been leading the scientific project "Unknown Historical Sources about Georgia (Tudor Archives)" funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation
On June 30, 2019, Giorgi Kalandia was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Asia.
